Cameron Marks Founder,
Vanessa Ambrose, writes a monthly column
on a local fashion blog called The Penny Rose...

In this month's 'The Curator', Vanessa chooses five of her favorite things....

1. Chanel Spring Collection:
This was one collection where, granted, the clothes were every bit fabulous
but the jaw dropping set just may have stole the show for me. Designer Karl Lagerfeld
decided to create a typical Parisian street called “Boulevard Chanel” inside the Grand
Palais building. No expense was spared. There were even real puddles by the curb.
Models walked along the street chatting as if on a lovely Sunday stroll, while fully
clad in Chanel. For the show finale, Lagerfeld staged a mock protest with
banners stating “tweed is better than tweet” and “Be your own stylist.”
I loved it.

2. B.C.E Jewelry:
I am currently swooning over the dainty gems by local indie jewelry designer
Rebecca Cass of B.C.E. Jewelry (Before Common Era.) Quickly becoming a
Cameron Marks favorite, Cass’s beautiful hand-crafted pieces in solid gold,
diamonds and precious gems are the perfect “wear with everything, never want to
part with” kind of jewelry. Come meet Cass at an in-store trunk show for
B.C.E Jewelry at Cameron Marks and receive 20 percent
off from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22.

3. Classic Movies:
My lovely mum is visiting from Australia, which usually means many a night glued
to the television set watching classic films of the Golden Hollywood era together.
A favorite this time around has been “All About Eve” from 1950. The film stars
Bette Davis as Margo Channing, a high regarded but aging Broadway star.
Anne Baxter plays Eve Harrington, an ambitious young fan who weaves herself
into Channing’s life, ultimately threatening Channing’s career and her
personal relationships. There’s also a small appearance by a young
unknown by the name of Marilyn Monroe.
It’s brilliant, to say the least.

4. Stelton Vacuum Jug:
On a recent buying trip, I came across the Stelton Vaccum Jug designed by
Eric Magnussen in 1977. It’s an undisputed icon of Scandanavian design.
The design is hugely innovative and striking in its minimalism. It will also keep
your hot stuff warm and your cold stuff cool—all in a stylish way.
Coming soon to Cameron Marks.

5. Pastels:
My favorite colors of the moment in fashion and design are the pastel hues.
It’s a fashion trend that made its first appearance last year and I believe will
reign supreme through out the summer of 2015. Far from the sickly sweet
styles usually acquainted with girly pastels, there seems to be a sporty,
sleek approach. Think casual loose fitting styles like slouchy cropped
pants, culottes, boxy crop tops, simple long jackets, and dresses in
monochromatic, pastel hues—easy to wear and oh so good looking.
