From Stace:

I'm very excited to teach sandal making in Santa Cruz. a place that boasts year-round sandal-wearing weather!  Join me at Cameron Marks for a day of sandal making!  The workshop will be held down the street from Cameron Marks in their beautiful, inspiring studio.  Light snacks and tea will be served.

In this one day workshop I will walk you through making your very own pair of handmade leather sandals.  No experience is necessary, and both men & women are welcome.  You will learn the entire process of sandal making over the course of the day, using your own feet to determine fit, style and color.  Classes are limited to 7 people to allow for plenty of individual assistance.  All the tools and supplies are provided, and you'll have many different leather colors to choose from.  You will choose from three styles: a toe ring sandal, a sandal that buckles at the ankle, or a two-strap slide sandal.  The strap width, leather colors, and strap placement is all up to you.  View photos of past workshops and student's sandals here.

Making sandals entirely from leather, including the soles and heels, is a traditional way of shoemaking that has been practiced for centuries.  And in my opinion, they are also the most comfortable, beautiful and durable!  In the process of making your sandals, you will also learn basic leather-working techniques and become familiar with shoemaking tools. You will leave with your very own pair of self-made sandals and a list of shoemaking supply resources in California. Bring a friend or family member and enjoy a day of working with your hands to craft a pair of sandals you will wear for years to come.

Workshop fee: $250, includes all tools, supplies, leather, light snacks and drinks

When: Sunday April 29, 2018 from 11am-5pm (some sandal makers might finish a little earlier or a little later)  We will take 30 min for a lunch break; you can either pack a lunch or grab takeout nearby

What to Bring: Working hands and outfits! Bring snacks and a water bottle.  We will also work outside briefly when using the sandal glue, so bring a sun hat or sunscreen if you'd like protection.  If you would like to use the belt sander to finish your sandals, bring a dust mask (not necessary, I can finish your sandals if you prefer)
